About – Mikro Orchestra
Hi, this is Mikro Orchestra! We've been playing together since 2001 and from the very beginning, we've been doing things a bit differently than most bands. We combine electronic music, multimedia art, and retro technologies. Our instruments are not just classic synthesizers or computers – we often use modified game consoles like GameBoy, SNES, or old computer terminals. We also create our own tools, software, and controllers, which make our concerts and performances truly unique.
What we do
At our concerts and shows, we blend chiptune, noise, improvisation, and video visualizations. Sometimes it sounds idyllic and nostalgic, like a memory from the 80s or 90s, and other times it's sharp and apocalyptic. We love mixing styles, experimenting, and improvising. Thanks to this, every performance is different, and the audience never knows what to expect.
We don't make art for flashy fireworks – for us, the most important thing is connecting with people and sharing the experience of what's happening here and now. Our concerts are often a combination of live electronic music, real-time generated visuals, and unpredictable improvisations.
Where we've played
We've had the opportunity to perform in many places in Poland and Europe. We've been part of major festivals such as:
- WRO Biennale (Wrocław)
- Transmediale (Berlin)
- Ars Electronica (Linz)
Our work has also appeared on radio and television – from BBC and Arte to documentaries about contemporary art and books on experimental music.
Our approach to art
We love hacking technology. Instead of buying the latest gadgets, we prefer to modify old equipment and give it new life. GameBoy becomes our synthesizer, the Guitar Hero controller turns into a tool for controlling sound, and a welding mask can become part of a visual installation.
In this way, we show that you don't have to follow mass production and consumption – you can create art and music on your own terms, using what's already out there. It's a bit of rebellion, a bit of fun, but above all, creative freedom.
